Riding Everyday in November

A few years ago a Facebook friend started a group called Riding everyday in November. The idea being that it's easy to ride everyday when the weather is good, but who can pledge to ride everyday  for the 30 days when the weather is not so good. It was fun. It got a lot of us riders out there even when the weather was terrible, even if only for a few miles or blocks. The worst I have to deal with is rain, wind, and cool weather. Sometimes fog. Other riders had blizzard like conditions and sub freezing temps, yet they prevailed. And a few living in the Southern Hemisphere, well we get to enjoy their sunny, spring weather. I'd say that's fair payback for when the usual April 30 days of riding pop up in the social media spheres. 

I wasn't going to ride this year. I haven't for the past couple of years since moving to the country. But Kevin didn't set the group to private right away, and I kept seeing posts. Kept feeling the call to go out for a ride, even if only for a mile. So I did. I went for a ride. Now I'm reluctantly committed to the challenge. I'm missing 3 days. I might make them up at the end, or I may just be happy with whatever number I get. We'll see. So here's some of my rides for the first week of riding everyday in November


WEDNESDAY, NOV. 4
I wasn’t going to do the challenge this year. Lol-still not sure I will. 🤔 But I went for a short ride today so I guess I’m 1-4.

FRIDAY, NOV. 6
Day 6, but ride 3 for me. Cloudy but no rain - woot! The house behind me was built by my Granddad, and my mom was born there. I’m sure my local bikey friends are sick of hearing this little fact as I always mention it when we ride this route.

    I haven't really given it a thought, Kari but looks like I am quite voluntarily in the "hike every day in November" squad.

      Yes I would say you are. 🙂 I think the important part is get outside and enjoy this world whether walking, riding, or whatever. Just get out and don’t let the weather keep you in.

Warning: Long post alert! A week or so ago Ron and I took a hike at Silver Falls State Park . Warm summer afternoons will find hundreds of people hiking at the park. It's a constant battle of passing slow hikers...usually in groups, and bumping past oncoming hikers. Not exactly a peaceful forest experience. Take a hike on a cool, wet afternoon, and you'll find far fewer hikers. The hike is called the Trail of Ten Falls . On this day we will visit 6 of the 10 falls, and be treated to a number of unofficial falls running off the slopes of the canyon. South Falls is probably the most visited of all the falls. Overnighter at the Coast

March 1-2, 2026 Shake down cruise, er camp. Found us a teeny, tiny camper van to run about the countryside wreaking havoc wherever we go. Meet the new money pit. God help us it’s another Dodge, or rather a Ram. A Promaster with the infamous terrible transmission. What can we say it hit a price point that no Sprinter could meet. We actually adore her. I just hope she doesn’t fail us on some dark and lonely road.  We spent too much time and money getting her appropriately outfitted, then took ourselves to the coast for a night of camping in the rain. If anyone knows our past camping history you would know it always includes rain. Fortunately the rain wrapped up over night and the next day was pretty nice.  Spent some time at Yaquina Bay on Monday. The sea lions were busy hunting lunch and having a very successful hunt. Yamaha V-Star 1100

Our son brought us along to be the voices of reason, strength in the face of temptation, shining examples ruled by the mind and not by passion. He probably should have brought someone else. He sold his pickup, and was looking for it's replacement, a four wheeled replacement that is. There were several options to be viewed up in Portland then after that a visit to one of the motorcycle stores to do a little shopping. I wanted try out some jackets - the never ending quest for the perfect jacket. We should have known it was a mistake to even point the car in the direction of Portland. We knew there was a bike up there, exactly what he was looking for. The whole auto shopping thing was just a ruse, a deception. We were really there to look at bikes. We were only fooling ourselves.
