The waters of Cheadle lake have been calling. The kayaks have been hanging from the garage rafters for far too long. It's also time for the little dog to get her sea legs. It's been on our to do list for a while, but we hadn't yet gone kayaking on Cheadle lake. In fact we haven't done any kayaking anywhere this year. This past weekend we loaded up the yaks, and the dog and took a short drive to the lake. Sadly in all the rush to gather up snacks and gear the camera was left behind. Our dog, Cookie did pretty good. She went in the water once, we pulled her back onto the boat and when she tried to shake off the water, in she went again. After that she attempted a modified shake that didn't really suffice, but kept her on deck. Did I mention that Cookie doesn't like the water all that much. All the more motivation to stay put. Tonight we went out again. This time we brought the camera. Cookie was calmer and definitely on her way to becoming quite the little s...

I almost closed this blog. I just haven't been here for a long while. We haven't done much (moto)cycling this year--been concentrating on bicycling. So maybe I'll just ramble for a while and get my thoughts together. I'm considering a new, well, different bike. I'm looking at standards. Somehow I have it in my mind that I will like riding a standard better than a cruiser. That it will somehow be more agile and handle more to my liking. I'm not sure how I came to this conclusion. I've never ridden one. But there you go. Perhaps it's delusion. A standard won't make up for my lacking skills as a rider. Some silly pics to add: Moto-Cookie goes for a ride. This dog loves to ride! We took Cookie for an evening walk along Cheadle lake. The water level is way down; typical for late summer, but still it was a lovely walk. The BLT and volunteers have been busy this summer. The blackberry briars have been removed from between the trail and the canal, new informational signs are up, and a rustic bench has been added on the peninsula. It looks like they've been working on the back portion of the trail. The grass has been graded under, but no rocks or barkdust has been laid down. Nice sunset over the mill and watertower.
